Archive for anime

Recently I got into watching anime again.

Not that anyone cares, but I took a long break from both manga and anime for almost two years. I thought at that time that my Japanese skills would deteriorate (which they did), but it wasn’t to the extent that I didn’t understand anything anymore. The reason why I’m stressing this all the time is because I feel guilty putting up these translations/summaries, when I know a lot of what I write might not be 100% accurate. But it’s fun for me, and it’s good practice. As always, my search for knowledge is a very selfish pursuit.
Anyway, like I was saying, it all started a while ago, when I was taking a break from physics. Mostly because I got so frustrated that it wouldn’t lead anywhere. I mean, just because I like physics, it doesn’t mean I’ll be the next Einstein. Plus, it does get irritating to be average at something you love, but rather good at something you dislike (I won’t describe this in detail). The middle ground to that is Japanese, though, because I’m still far away from being good at it, so it still poses a challenge, but I’m not bad enough at it that I’d be completely useless.

I can’t remember now what was the first anime that brought me “back”, (it might have been when I was re-watching Sailor Moon and then my friend recommended Hetalia and I went over my net-cap back in January), but the first complete anime I watched recently apart from Toshokan Sensou (check out my other post) is Hakushaku to Yousei (pictured). That is, The Earl and the Fairy. For more information you can go here. There’s a manga and a 12-episode anime out, but it’s based on a light novel that has now reached volume 19 or something. It’s kind of weird, because I noticed recently that a lot of the manga I like is actually based on light novels (Saiunkoku Monogatari, Toshokan Sensou, Hakushaku to Yousei, Kamisama Game, Ghost Hunt, Shinrei Tantei Yakumo) or otome games (Kiniro no Corda, Angelique, Harukanaru Toki no Naka de, etc). I suppose this is mostly because the art is great, and I looooove great art.

I also watched 16 or 17 episodes of Bokurano last month when I was home. Mostly cause my friend got me addicted to the theme song, but in the end it was too depressing and I just gave up.

Catchy, right?

Then the other day I ended up watching the Angelique OVAs and trying to re-strain myself to read the manga translation until volume 1o. Cause luckily Marfisa translated the manga ! Only, the raws are really hard to find, and dunno….just reading the translation is annoying. But the OVAs are so confusing if you don’t watch them carefully too  XD There are 4 of them, but only the 4th one is chronologically accurate to the manga, so you need to start with that one. Which can be a bit of a headache. This pictured here is actually from one of the spin-offs, but the guys are the same. The story revolves around a young girl becoming the queen of the universe with the help of her devoted, element-wielding male harem.

Now I’m just looking forward to the Shinrei Tantei Yakumo anime coming out in the Fall of this year, see here, cause Yakumo is soooo cool! He sees ghosts! And he’s pretty!! And there’s a movie which I’ve yet to see actually (oooh!).

Also, Otome Youkai Zakuro, which will be out sometime this year too ❤ (p.s. there’s a manga).

Well, that’s it for today’s rant. I’ll try to have another few pages translated for Wednesday.
